Job Description:

The Produce Field Merchandiser directs the team of Produce Specialists as they teach, train and mentor our Produce Managers to run more efficient operations to maximize sales and profit for the company. A detailed understanding of the department’s policies, procedures and programs is essential for the position to be successful. The Merchandiser plays an essential role in every aspect of the produce business and must have a good working relationship with all cross-functional areas of the company. Of primary importance will be the development and continued training of associates to ensure that the department’s initiatives are properly implemented. The Merchandiser must have strong leadership skills with specific emphasis on oral and written communication. Independent judgement and the ability to adapt to rapidly changing environments will be critical for the success of the associate, department and company.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Produce Field Merchandiser is responsible for the functions below, in addition to other duties as assigned:

  • Partner with Merchandising and Operations to develop merchandising strategies, plans and competitive activities, consistent with the company’s sales, profit and merchandising goals.
  • Coordinate the effective implementation of merchandising strategies and competitive activities between Merchandising and Store Operations; identify and remove obstacles to timely implementation.
  • Train, coach and provide feedback to Produce Specialists on procedures, best practices, and performance metrics; monitor Specialists’ performance to ensure alignment with department goals and objectives.
  • Communicate regularly with Produce Director, District Managers, Regional Vice Presidents, Department Managers and Specialists to ensure stores effectively manage inventory and have the product mix to achieve sales targets.
  • Engage and build relationships with store teams and customers; ensure there is open and effective communication with all stakeholders.
  • In conjunction with the Produce Director, the Field Merchandiser will draft and communicate Weekly Display Plans for all stores and oversee the Produce Department setup for store remodels and Grand Openings, ensuring the appropriate fixtures, supplies and products are ordered, delivered, and merchandised on time.
  • Analyze budget, sales, and P&L reports to identify tactical sales opportunities and actions that will control shrink and grow profits.
  • Facilitate end of the month reconciliation process with the Produce Director and Specialist Team.
  • Assist Specialists with ordering equipment and supplies needed for store displays.
  • Perform all tasks in a professional and safe manner consistent with company policies and procedures, and local, state, and federal laws.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position is an advisory position.

Education/Experience

Minimum of 10 years of experience in produce operations and minimum of 5 years of experience in the Produce Specialist position required.
