Job Description:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The associate is responsible for the functions below, in addition to other duties as assigned:

  • Oversee the development and implementation of energy management strategies and policies while promoting organization awareness and involvement, as well as, monitoring cost savings.
  • Establish corporate sustainability goals and track metrics to improve the Company’s stand as an environmental steward while balancing economic feasibility for a for-profit business.  Scope includes stores, store support center, distribution center, manufacturing plants and fleet maintenance.
  • Acts as a change agent to introduce positive disruption that will lead to an enterprise-wide understanding of the company’s commitment to sustainability and its progress on that journey.
  •  Works closely with our Public Relations team to maintain continued education and communications through various media outlets to promote progress and achievements in sustainability efforts.
  • Research, implement and report on programs for reducing energy use including lighting retrofits and oversee the lighting maintenance program.
  • Research and develop qualifications for energy rebates plans.
  • Submit projects for inclusion in the Capital Budget; execute approved projects.
  • Administer the recommissioning and energy monitoring programs for the stores.
  • Identify, propose, research, and evaluate the use of new technologies including new lighting technology and ideas to control energy usage within our environment; write reports for presentation to management to document the conclusions; implement approved projects; monitor results.
  • Create measurement tools and programs to monitor energy usage for the purpose of identifying sites requiring mediation, monitoring success of energy initiatives, and providing historical data for the Company’s energy procurement activities and internal reporting.
  • Develop and present trainings to promote energy controls and industry trends and innovations across the organization.
  • Develop a plan for the application of energy management gear at new installations, to include input points, output points, strategies, and setpoints.
  • Supervise the start-up of new controls and equipment to ensure operation for optimum performance and energy efficiency (commissioning).
  • Meet with Service Supervisors and/or Technicians to collaborate on energy management strategies.
  • Consult with various internal teams to improve energy performance of new store and remodel designs and assist in acquiring energy at the lowest rates practical.
  • Promote industry-leading best practices in sustainability for product specification, production, manufacturing, sourcing, and distribution; advise teams on how to find energy conservation and environmental benefits.
  • Research trends and developments in sustainability; attend applicable conferences; develop trade contacts.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position directly supervises two specialists within the department (Energy Specialist and Sustainability Specialist) and carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with company policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training, directing, rewarding, and appraising. 

Qualification Requirements

To perform this job successfully, the associate must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required:

Education and/or Experience                                                                                                                         

 Four-year bachelor’s degree in mechanical, or Electrical Engineering; or two-year associate’s degree in similar field of study, plus related experience in the HVAC/R field.

Leadership Skills

  • Ability to remain flexible to changing business needs and react to those needs in a professional positive manner.
  • Strong organizational, analytical and time management skills.
  • Ability to analyze financial & statistical reports.

Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.

Possess business acumen to manage budgets and savings of sustainability projects and recommend utilization of funds.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Other Skills, Abilities, and/or Training

The following qualities are required:

  • Ability to pass drug test.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to pass a motor vehicle report check.
  • Knowledge of refrigeration systems and service techniques, including electrical and control devices is desirable but not necessary.
  • Strong analytical skills using a data driven approach for decision making.
  • Knowledge of MSDS, OSHA, equipment safety, and tool safety.
  • Knowledge of hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic instruments common to the trade.
  • Ability and willingness to move with purpose and a strong sense of urgency.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize a variety of tasks/projects.
  • Familiarity with industry/technical terms and processes.
  • Ability to work within strict time frames and resolute deadlines.
  • Demonstrate proficiency with the Microsoft® Office Suite (Word, Excel, Internet Explorer, Outlook, PowerPoint, Access and Windows 7).
  • Ability to work day or evening hours, weekends and extended hours as needed.

This position requires a valid driver's license for business travel.
