The primary purpose of this position is to supervise workloads, schedule, tasks and other related functions to ensure implementation of day-to-day activities for transportation. Ensures compliance of safety standards and maintenance of vehicles. The candidate will focus on continuous department improvement to meet transportation objectives with emphasis on safety, quality, and customer service. This includes, training and supervising transportation department associates, compliance with government regulations and promoting safety and security of the transportation department. Frequent independent judgments are essential to basic operations of the department.
Schedule is typically 10AM-6:30PM-- Working 40-45 hours.
Days off are Wednesday and Saturday
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The associate is responsible for the functions below, in addition to other duties as assigned:
Supervises the daily work and safety of Transportation Associates, including adherence to standard operating procedures, Food Safety Standards and preferred work methods, adherence to planned routes, and providing safe and efficient customer service.
Ensures Transportation Associates comply with local, state and federal regulatory agencies (i.e. DOT, OSHA, etc.) and ensures that electronic logs are kept current and accurate.
Complies with distribution procedures and governmental OSHA, Safety and DOT regulations under federal, state, and local laws for shipping and handling requirements.
Assists with the training of new associates, including cross training of existing associates.
ensure the proper selection and utilization of Company assets in support of the Delivery operations.
Reviews delivery functions and productivity reporting.
Train and review adherence to company polices to promote a safe and efficient workplace.
Communicates with Warehouse and Customer Service teams to collaboratively resolve any customer or delivery opportunities or issues.
keeps open communication channels with associates by answering questions and explaining policies and procedures.
Monitor driver schedules to include DOT hours, breaks, additional stops and total hours are efficiently completed.
Ensure a safe work environment that is consistent with company safety and health standards.
promotes an atmosphere in which upward communications is encouraged and motivate associates to achieve department goals and objectives.
Ability to be flexible to changing business needs and react to those needs in a professional positive manner.
Maintain professional communication with both internal and external customers to promote operational objectives.

This position directly supervises drivers and jockey in accordance with Weis Markets policies, DOT regulations, and applicable laws.
To perform this job successfully, the associate must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required:
Education and/or Experience
High school diploma or GED equivalent with a minimum of five (5) years’ Transportation and/or Supply Chain Operations experience. Basic technical knowledge and transportation experience within food distribution preferred. knowledge of DOT regulations is preferred but not required.
Ability to lead and develop talent; prepare them for potential advancement. Ability to effectively partner with internal DC departments and be flexible to changing business needs and react to those needs in a professional positive manner. Strong organizational, time management and communication skills required.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, and customers. Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.
Ability to work with math concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
Other Skills, Abilities, and/or Training
Minimum age of 18 years old due to operating of equipment requirement.
Ability to pass drug test.
Knowledge of Supply Chain processes.
Familiarity with industry/technical terms and processes.
Must be able to work the assigned shift for the position. Must know/have ability to learn MSDS information regarding all material used within the scope of the work. Understand and interpret DOT and other state and federal regulations.
The ability to independently manage the details of the transportation environment, to track activities and to meet deadlines.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND/OR REGISTRATIONS
This position requires a valid driver's license, Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) preferred. Certificate of DOT regulations training is preferred.

The associate is regularly exposed to indoor conditions with a moderate noise level. Distribution Center setting may be moderate to high noise level. Associate may frequently be exposed to outdoor parking lot conditions and exposed to moderate or high level of noise from running equipment.
