SUMMARY The primary purpose of this position is responsible for working in a service department performing maintenance on company fleet vehicles, specializing in tractor-trailers. Performs scheduled service and essential maintenance such as replacement of broken or worn parts/equipment by operating all types of hand and power/impact tools on cars, vans, light trucks and tractor-trailers. The mechanic will use a handheld PC to scan bar codes for parts and labor charged to vehicles. They check the mileage of the vehicle and its service records, and complete the work specified in the manufacturer’s service schedules. They also complete simple servicing tasks, such as changing engine oil and filters or checking lubricant levels. They also answer telephone calls to assist drivers with vehicle breakdowns on the road. Frequent independent judgments are essential. The incumbent is also required to perform all tasks in a safe manner consistent with corporate policies and state and federal laws.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The associate is responsible for the functions below, in addition to other duties as assigned:
1. Builds and assembles machines or mechanical components according to requirements on vehicles.
2. Inspects machines, engines, transmissions and run diagnostic tests to discover functionality issues.
3. Conducts repairs aiming for maximum reliability.
4. Troubleshoot reported problems and resolve them in a timely manner.
5. Perform thorough maintenance on machinery, equipment and systems.
6. Replenish fluids and components of engines and machinery.
7. Provide consultation on correct maintenance and preventative measures to machine or vehicle users.
8. Undertake other duties as assigned (e.g. repair of hydraulic systems, painting, etc).
9. Keep logs of work and report on issues.
10. Able to multi-task and work on projects as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS To perform this job successfully, the associate must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required: Education and/or Experience High School diploma or equivalent. Vocational or technical certification preferred. General mechanical knowledge is required. Must be able to read and understand technical service manuals and other related materials. On the job training will be provided for forklift operation, Haz-mat awareness and other training related to safety standards. Associate assigned to refrigeration systems repair will be required to obtain certification in that area.
Must be available for weekend and evening/night schedules. Class A CDL and Pa. state inspection preferred.
Schedule: Schedule is 3rd shift; and based off of experience.
