Job Description:

Must be able to maintain an onsite presence and travel within the assigned territory covering locations throughout Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York, but not limited to the following locations.

Pennsylvania- Danville, Wilkes Barre, Scranton, Stroudsburg
New Jersey- Hacketstown, Newton

New York- Binghamton

The Store Service Supervisor is responsible for supervising and overseeing the activities of a group of Store Service Technicians in conducting repairs to refrigeration and HVAC equipment throughout retail locations. The supervisor partners with outside contractors to ensure equipment repairs.  Accountable to follow up verify that the assigned projects are completed in compliance with established company standards.  The incumbent is required to perform all tasks in a safe manner consistent with corporate policies and applicable laws.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The associate is responsible for the functions below, in addition to other duties as assigned.

  • Supervise Service Techs and outside contractors to ensure compliance with EPA regulations governing the proper handling of refrigerants and refrigeration oils; ensure that leaks are repaired within the required deadlines, and that records are properly completed and maintained.
  • Meet with Service Technicians individually or in groups at frequent intervals to review and instruct in the areas of job performance, safety practices, preventive maintenance, work assignments, and compliance with company policies.
  • Interview applicants for the position of Service Technician; provide new employee orientation for new hires; supervise the training of new Service Techs; perform an annual performance review of each Service Tech; remedy policy violations as necessary.
  • Supervise the installation of refrigeration and related equipment during construction of new stores and remodels of existing stores according to Weis Markets plans and specifications. Review plans and drawings. Attend scheduled job meetings.  Coordinate the work of this department with that of the other trades and departments. Schedule equipment deliveries and installation to coordinate with other trades and to minimize customer inconvenience. Ensure that all work and equipment comply with the specifications.
  • Develop a plan for the application of energy management gear at each new installation, to include inputs, outputs, and setpoints. Order the gear as required.
  • Supervise the start-up and operation of new equipment; ensure that new and existing equipment is operated correctly for optimum performance and energy efficiency.
  • Review service reports, time sheets, expense records, invoices, etc. to ensure that the work or purchase conforms to company policy; complete receiving documents promptly; follow up as required to remedy any discrepancies.
  • Collect information for the permanent record of each new store or remodel, to include as-built changes to the original refrigeration and HVAC plan, fixture service manuals, and energy management system (EMS) programs. Assemble a “Store Book” for each new store and remodel and post a refrigeration equipment plan in the compressor room.
  • Develop new programs as required to address new job requirements such as new EPA rules, product recalls, training on new equipment, etc.
  • Provide suggestions to associated departments to improve store design or construction; stay current on the latest practices in refrigeration, HVAC, and supermarket design and operation.
  • Plan and coordinate small projects involving the installation, relocation, removal, or modification of equipment in existing stores.
  • Select, price, and order miscellaneous equipment when necessary (examples: hot water reclaim tanks, compressors, evap coils, walk-in parts, etc.)
  • Submit a weekly written activity report to the department manager. 
  • Submit projects for consideration in the Capital Budget; execute approved projects.
  • Supervise the operation and maintenance of HVAC systems in vacant property units to prevent freeze-ups and to prevent unnecessary energy use.
  • Instruct Store Management and/or Supervision in recommended practices to operate their refrigeration equipment, to include merchandise loading practices, cleaning and sanitizing, monitoring performance, responding to alarms, and reporting problems.
  • Establish new controls to minimize or track the cost of operation, maintenance, parts and supplies as appropriate.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position supervises Store Service Technicians (typically 5 - 6 based on the market area assigned) in accordance with company policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training, directing, rewarding, and appraising. 

Qualification Requirements

To perform this job successfully, the associate must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required:

Education and/or Experience

Post-secondary training in refrigeration (or equivalent experience) and previous experience working on HVAC/R systems required. Previous supervisory experience is preferred.
