Overview

SUMMARY

The primary purpose of this position is to support the Pharmacy team with their strategic initiatives by performing analytic and reporting functions in support of the department’s goal to maximize pharmacy sales and profitability. This individual will be responsible for providing analysis utilizing data and modeling tools to evaluate pharmacy programs and ensure third party contract valuation is consistent with the terms of the agreements. Assist with analyzing inventory metrics including our replenishment vendor results, excessive product in stores, as well as outdated products. Evaluate Pharmacy dispensing system and clinical platform data for anomalies, medication synchronization impacts, pharmacy systems impact to optimize labor costs, and evaluate expense variance to budget. Frequent independent judgements are essential. The incumbent is also required to perform all tasks in a safe manner consistent with company policies and state/federal laws.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The associate is responsible for the functions below, in addition to other duties as assigned:

  1. Regularly monitors our Company’s Pharmacy sales and profitability.
  2. Monitors, reports and projects Pharmacy inventory and purchasing and provides trend and dollars adjudicated analysis to intended recipients.
  3. Produce, publish, and maintain report for period gross profit information for Pharmacy Department approval and then communication to Accounting.   
  4. Produce, publish, and maintain report for Pharmacy inventory on hands for Accounting and Pharmacy.
  5. Monitor and report on third party performance including but not limited to pharmacy third party reimbursement and (direct and indirect remuneration) DIR processes.
  6. Produce, publish, and maintain daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly reports on key performance metrics using basic and specialized query tools to gather data from various sources and compile it for presentation to management.
  7. Compares monthly invoices to budget and determines if the expense is reasonable.
  8. Produce, publish, and maintain the Pharmacy profitability report.
  9. Monitors and reports dispensing trends, including potential audit triggers, to intended recipients.
  10. Assure contract compliance through payment review performed at set intervals throughout the plan year to assure agreed upon performance and financial guarantees are achieved.
  11. Assist with the evaluation, determination and recommendation of alternative network and pricing models including the understanding of the mechanics of various point of sale rebate programs available in the market.
  12. Works with Pharmacy and Accounting departments to evaluate third party contracts and performs what-if scenarios.
  13. Work with business groups to understand and communicate reporting needs to the Data Services team.  Assist in design and development of KPI dashboards and executive reports.
  14. Assists in the Pharmacy budgeting and projection process annually and throughout the year as needed.

Job Qualifications

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

To perform this job successfully, the associate must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required:

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in Business or other relevant field of study plus 2 years’ experience in an analytical role with a strong aptitude in query and statistical analysis tools and basic mathematical modeling. Preferred experience in retail pharmacy or managed care environment.

Language Skills

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small- group situations to management and other associates. Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.

Mathematical Skills

The ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide numbers with up to eight digits and to perform these operations using American units of money, weight, volume and distance.

Other Skills, Abilities, and/or Training

The following qualities are required:

  • Ability to pass a drug test.
  • Experience or knowledge of utilizing and reporting within the following systems preferred:
      • PDX EPS – Enterprise Pharmacy System, Rx Dispensing System
      • Change Healthcare Systems- Including but not limited to Absolut, Converge, Explore, and Exchange
      • Cardinal– DSD Vendor (Access to pull data)
      • Supply Logix – Rx replenishment system. Used for auditing, inventory management and theft warning.
      • PICS – Inventory Service
      • Outcomes – Medication Therapy Management platforms
      • Medturn – Returned Goods Platform
      • PowerBI
      • Ateb/Omnicell – Med Synchronization and IVR Platform
  • Maintains an innate curiosity about pharmacy profitability.
  • Committed to providing customer service that makes both internal and external customers feel welcome, important, and appreciated.

  • Proven ability to support multiple projects simultaneously with attention to detail and process.
  • Ability to preserve confidentiality of financial and protected heath information.

  • Accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize a variety of tasks/projects.
  • Must be able to effectively interact with internal and external customers.
  • Typing speed of forty (40)+ WPM.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to learn specialized, computer-based item management systems.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft® Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) including working knowledge of pivot tables.

The following qualities are helpful:

  • Ability to work day and evening hours.  Flexible scheduling during the week will be offered to offset 3 to 4 hours of analysis performed every Sunday.
