TITLE:   Pasteurizer Operator-Startup                     FLSA STATUS:  Non-Exempt

DEPARTMENT:  Milk Plant #258-04                     REPORTS TO:  Shift Supervisors

This description represents a significant sampling of tasks performed, responsibilities and job knowledge required, however, it is not meant to be an exhaustive list.

SUMMARY OF JOB

The Pasteurizing System is the critical step in processing safe product.  The Pasteurizer (HTST) Operator is responsible for operating, monitoring, and maintaining pasteurizing systems and associated components.  They initiate the production day by preparing the plant and product for processing.   

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

Startup Pasteurizer Operators have no direct supervisory responsibilities.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Develop working knowledge of startup sanitizing processes.
  2. Develop working knowledge Pasteurizer equipment, operation, and product flow.  Must be able to assist Regulatory Personnel conduct quarterly equipment tests.
  3. Develop working knowledge of Pasteurizer’s sanitary equipment in order to diagnose, service, and make repairs.  Must be responsible for addressing leaks that occur in pumps, valves, or tanks from Raw Silo to Filler Flow Panels.
  4. Develop working knowledge of mixing and blending of drinks, teas, etc.
  5. Develop working knowledge of HTST CIP and other CIP basics.  Must clean pasteurized tanks for products as needed.  Must see that at least one clean raw silo is available for receiving.  Must be able to clean Slurries, if needed.
  6. Develop working knowledge of sanitary sampling of tanks and ports.  Need to perform analysis of product on fat testing equipment as needed.  Operators are responsible for ensuring butterfat results meet specification by operating their equipment to produce acceptable product.
  7. Develop working knowledge of cream load out.
  8. Assist in the completion of Sanitary Equipment Inspections.
  9. Assist in reprocessing of rework or substandard product.  This includes, but is not limited to dumping of cans, breaking open packages, etc.
  10. Maintain compliance with HACCP, SQF, GMP Plans and all associated programs and paperwork.
  11. Complete all pertinent paperwork properly and promptly.

12. Develop working knowledge of in-plant computer controls. Must access and comprehend CIP and Data Retrieval information.

13. All associates in their related tasks are responsible for maintaining the commitment to Food Safety and Food Quality.

Job Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

A high school diploma or greater is preferred. An understanding of food safety, food security, and general cleanliness is helpful.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS

The Startup HTST Operator should have good basic computer skills, good basic math skills, and good verbal and written communication skills. The job requires a conscientious, detail-oriented person who is accurate and consistent. The job requires the ability to work independently as well as cooperatively in groups. They must also work safely. This person must be reliable, trustworthy, and have a good understanding about the importance of proper sanitary practices in a food processing plant. They need to be well-organized and have strong mechanical inclination.

WORKING CONDITIONS

The Startup HTST Operator needs to be prepared to work in wet conditions and to be very hands-on. They must consistently perform all tasks in a safe, sanitary manner. Repairs and Preventative Maintenance duties need to be completed in a timely manner without Supervisory prompting. Work needs to be completed efficiently and effectively in order to maintain production schedules.

Schedule is Mon-Fri 9AM-530PM

Starting Rate is $15.00 plus $3.00 attendance incentive
