Overview

The Learning & Development Specialist is primarily responsible for planning, analyzing, designing, developing, implementing/conducting, administering and evaluating training programs for retail and non-retail associates. This individual works collaboratively across the organization to identify performance gaps/training opportunities and design and develop the most appropriate/customized training solutions to improve associates skills/knowledge, performance, and productivity that will positively impact business results and customer service.

  • Conduct training needs assessments through surveys, observations, interviews with associates, and consultations with managers and supervisors.
     
  • Collaborate with business partners, subject matter experts, and others to analyze training needs, identify learning objectives and select the most appropriate instructional design/training techniques.
  • Design and develop training programs for facilitator-led workshops, blended learning, self-study, LMS modules, classroom training, job aids and other collateral materials.
  • Facilitate/conduct management/non-management training programs for retail and non-retail managers and associates using a variety of methods such as presentations, facilitated group discussions, workshops, team exercises, hands-on experiences, and other formats.
     
  • Conduct Train-the-Trainer sessions as needed to prepare field HR managers, store/department managers, field supervisors, and others in the distribution/store support center to facilitate training sessions; monitor these sessions, assess effectiveness and provide feedback to facilitators.
     
  • Conduct level 1, 2, 3 and 4 training program evaluations using the most efficient methods to determine effectiveness of learning transfer and impact on business results (ROI).
  • Develop/manage training projects and prioritization; maintain training content for learning management system.
  • Perform various administrative duties such as monitoring costs, scheduling workshops, setting up systems and equipment, and coordinating enrollment.

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree is required; advanced degree is a plus.
  • Minimum of two years related experience as a developer of facilitator-led training programs, computer-based training, self-study and other learning solutions, preferably in a retail operations based environment.
  • Minimum of two years of retail store management experience is required.
  • Ability to apply solid instructional design skills and technology, effective adult learning principles and creativity in designing programs, courses and curriculums that engage participants in the learning process.
  • Demonstrated collaboration and partnering skills.  
  • Experience in retail operations, industry trends and technical training.
  • Highly developed analysis and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Proficient using Microsoft Office Products (Windows, Word, PowerPoint, Excel), Adobe Flash, Adobe Captivate.
  • Multimedia experience in video, image editing, and storyboarding is a plus.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively.
  • Strong organizational skills; ability to prioritize and multi-task effectively.
  • Ability to interact well with all levels of the organization.
  • Strong facilitation skills.
  • Customer service oriented.
