Overview

The Energy Specialist (Specialist) reports to the Energy Sustainability Manager and works to identify and capture opportunities for energy reduction.  The Specialist assists the Energy and Sustainability Manager in development, implementation, documentation, and management of energy reduction projects and best practices. The Specialist is the company expert in deployment and use of Energy Management Systems (EMS). The Specialist works primarily in the Sunbury Office, with frequent visits to store sites. The Specialist represents the best interests of the Company to his associates and to all parties with whom he interacts outside the department.  

  1. Analyze energy use reports to identify abnormalities in facility operations (lighting schedules, HVAC setpoints, setbacks, etc.).
  2. Conduct surveys of store conditions and equipment as needed to create a database for energy control activities.
  3. Create measurement tools and programs to monitor energy usage for the purpose of identifying sites requiring mediation, monitoring success of energy initiatives, and providing historical data for the Company’s energy procurement activities.
  4. Identify, propose, research, and evaluate the use of new technologies and ideas to control energy usage within our working environment; monitor results.
  5. Assist in development and distribution of energy reports.
  6. Interrogate Energy Management Systems (EMS) to identify deficiencies and implement corrective action; maintain current TOD schedules.
  7. Develop training plans to promote energy control at store level.
  8. Assist in startups of EMS, to include verification of input points, output points, set points, and strategies. This includes site visits to verify EMS was installed and programmed to company specifications.

Job Qualifications

  1. Post-secondary technical training in job-related discipline.

  2. Good verbal, writing, and reading skills, including the abilities to read and interpret manufacturers’ technical literature and to clearly communicate with others.

  3. Good judgment, reliability, initiative, tact, integrity, and dependability.

  4. Interest in continuing education and/or development to stay current with the changing demands of the job and the industry.

  5. Ability to use a computer as necessary in the performance of the job duties; proficiency in Internet, MS Office; proficiency with computerized controls of the type found in the supermarket setting.

  6. Strong organizational, communication, interpersonal and analytical skills

Desirable:

  1. Experience analyzing and presenting utility/energy information

  2. Experience auditing commercial energy bills.

  3. Experience participating in energy audits.

  4. Supermarket experience in any capacity.
