Overview

The role of the Director of Asset Protection & Safety is to lead Weis Markets’ Asset Protection team in the development, implementation and sustainability of all Asset Protection programs.  Follows-up on the implementation and execution of programs and procedures as directed through store operations.  Appraises and evaluates the results of shrink related program on a regular basis and oversees mitigation efforts to reduce loss.  Oversees all retail store Asset Protection programs and staff.

In addition to the Asset Protection responsibilities, this role will oversee and coordinate the organization’s and Safety efforts through an in-depth understanding of the overall business, effective partnerships and by directing the organization with integrity and professionalism.

  • Provide supervision, training and leadership for assigned team.  This would include the development and management of tactical skills, leadership abilities, and overall retail business acumen.
  • Develop and manage strategic initiatives and projects in conjunction with the Store Operations leadership to impact gross profit, shrink reduction, and process improvements.
  • Develop, manage, implement and follow-up on recommendations to Senior Leadership regarding methods to reduce shrinkage and improve safety results.
  • Create a culture of safety throughout the entire organization.
  • Drive accident awareness and prevention within retail stores.
  • Through the field team, monitor stores’ compliance with established policies and procedures through the audit program; report compliance to field and Senior Leadership.
  • Manage the usage of department reports to identify and react to loss trends appropriately.  Assist in the development of and revision to existing reporting.
  • Manage the theft investigation process to ensure all investigations are conducted legally, professionally, and in accordance with all Weis Markets policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate with the Manager of Asset Protection Analytics and Physical Security Manager regarding new and/or closing sites; manage installation of security alarm, key control and camera systems; make recommendations regarding these systems and ensure their utilization by subordinates.
  • Develop/refine operational audits tailored to the reduction of inventory shrinkage, compliance with regulations and company policy.
  • Participates in the development and preparation of annual budget plans related to Asset Protection and Safety programs.
  • Conduct unscheduled shrink visits and policy reviews with particular emphasis on focus stores. Review results with key store management and provide assistance to correct deficient conditions. Recommend corrective action.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance to all local, state and federal (OSHA) safety and health standards.
  • Use accident/safety tracking software to analyze trends and measure safety performance. Identify exceptions and initiate action where necessary.
  • Monitor store accident reporting and investigation procedures and provide instruction as required. Recommend disciplinary action for flagrant safety or record keeping violations.
  • Introduce and administer individual store, district and region level safety incentive programs.
  • Coordinate with DAPMs, store operations, and human resources to manage the formal safety inspection process. Focus on high risk accident areas and design procedures to minimize accident frequency and severity.
  • Investigate and analyze incident reports and complaints involving work-related injuries and illness and prepares reporting on hazards, violations, and accidents.  Recommends measures to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Perform budgeting, forecasting, capital expenditure requests and return on investment (ROI) analysis for all safety countermeasures deployed.
  • Monitor store safety committee activities to ensure effectiveness and provide training as needed.

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related field and 7 - 10 + years previous experience in multi-unit Asset Protection/Loss Prevention with direct reports required.
  • Must possess strong leadership with aptitude to motivate others to achieve desired results. Deal effectively with a wide variety of people on a daily basis.
  • Advanced knowledge of conducting legal and ethical investigations and interviewing.
  • Analytic and decisive decision maker with the ability to prioritize and communicate to staff key objectives and tactics necessary to achieve organizational goals.
  • Possess excellent communication skills, both written and verbal plus the ability to make effective presentations.
  • Ability to travel weekly to various retail store locations.
