Overview

The primary purpose of this position is to monitor and handle the banana ripening process.  The associate will be responsible for conducting quality inspections, reviewing ripening cycles, actual ripening and post ripening handling in order to comply with Weis Markets expectations. The incumbent is required to perform all tasks in a safe manner consistent with corporate policies and applicable laws

The associate is responsible for the functions below, in addition to other duties as assigned:

  1. Conduct required quality inspections related to the ripening process such as ventilation, humidity, temperature, etc. and communicate reports daily, to ensure the compliance with Weis Markets ripening requirements and expectations.
  2. Condition inbound fruit and load ripening rooms, according to the established procedures, in order to maintain an adequate inventory and comply with the ripening schedules.
  3. Perform daily inspections for ripened fruit with quality assurance personnel, in order to meet Weis Markets specifications.
  4.  Stage fruit to be outturned and ensure that fruit is outturned timely for order assembly.
  5. Perform daily inventory management and reconcile as needed with third party, in order to maintain the inventory levels.
  6. Maintain a sanitation preventative maintenance program, to ensure ripening rooms are running efficiently and comply with the established quality standards.
  7. Additional duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in business, agriculture, plant science, a technical field related to agriculture production or related fields, or least 3 years’ experience performing the above functions including, advanced skills in banana ripening and conditioning, product quality standards, and ethylene producing products.
