Overview

SUMMARY

The primary purpose of this position is to research and resolve problems contributing to issues in areas of theft, receiving, safety, and shrink to further optimize the success and profitability of Weis Markets. This position is further responsible to inspire, train, and guide Store Associates through adherence to company best practices, policies, and procedures.  Additionally, responsible to monitor and conduct training on our retail safety programs.  This position will be a support role for Asset Protection and may assist in investigations, high shrink inventory reviews and internal theft interviews.  The incumbent is required to perform all tasks in a safe manner consistent with corporate policies and state and federal laws.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The associate is responsible for the functions below, in addition to other duties as assigned:

  1. Routinely audits areas of improvement with regard to customer service and compliance. Identify and resolve conditions/behaviors that affect shrink, safety and profitability by auditing for compliance and communicating AP awareness.
  2. Develop an efficient operational audit schedule, with minimal disruption during store training sessions, district and regional meetings, holidays, and inventories.
  3. Perform asset protection activities and operational audits for assigned stores each audit cycle in accordance with established policies, procedures, and guidelines.  Additional audits will need to be completed on high shrink/high risk stores as needed; ensuring strict adherence to audit standard and standard operating procedures.
  4. Collaborates with Regional Asset Protection Managers and store managers to establish and deepen the understanding and support of in-store Asset Protection activities.  Provide feedback and training to stores which perform poorly on audits.  Ensures associates focus on achieving the shortage goal through service and awareness programs that impact shrink results, minimize loss, and effectively increase profits.
  5. Record control breakdowns as identified through the audit and clearly document the specifics of each breakdown as measured against standard operating procedure.
  6. Develops and compiles documentation related to comprehensive investigations into a variety of risk or loss situations within the retail store.
  7. Coordinates law enforcement activity and compiles case files for prosecuting attorneys; works closely with law enforcement and prosecuting attorneys monitoring progress and providing additional information and data in support of law enforcement investigations and cases.
  8. Administers Asset Protection training program for department, store, district and regional team members to build Asset Protection capacity and expertise among store management and staff on audit standards and standard operating procedures as needed.
  9. Provide support for stores on safety related issues. Audit requires training for regulatory and safety programs.
  10. Provide hazard identification and response training for retail associates – accident response and investigation, emergency response and general safety training.
  11. Drive behavioral change in stores to minimize loss; utilize audit standards to identify and correct control breakdowns.
  12. Supports the store's shortage and theft awareness program and advises management of any unusual activity using the various reporting methods provided by the company (Open Door Policy, contacting Asset Protection or Human Resources team).  Report serious deficiencies upon discovery of policy and compliance violations and any theft/fraud situation.
  13. Maintain safety standards to identify areas of risk and eliminate potential threats.
  14. Attend physical inventory in stores with high shrink history, assist in preforming high shrink investigations for warranted stores.
  15. Test the functionality of CCTV, alarms, fire systems, key controls, pallet jacks, balers and cash office safe processes to ensure stores follow through and evaluate knowledge of procedures.

Job Qualifications

  • Education and/or Experience

    Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) Criminal Justice, Criminology, Business, or related field preferred, plus three (3) years fraud research and security experience, including CCTV usage, in a retail store setting.
